ALS: Althorp [Northamptonshire, Eng.], 1815 Dec. 19.

In this ALS to an unidentifiable bookseller, Earl Spencer indicates that he is returning the copy of the Diodati Bible supplied to him becauseit is not printed on large paper; he also encloses a list of items from the bookseller's recent catalog that he wishes to purchase. He indicates that volumes already bound should be sent to Althorp and those in boards or sheets are to be forwarded to his London house in St. James' Place. Giovanni Diodati's translation of the Bible into Italian from Hebrew and Greek texts was first published in 1607 with later editions in 1641 and 1665. Thomas Frognall Dibdin's Aedes Althorpianae (I:85) of 1822 describes copies of the 1607 and 1641 editions in the Earl Spencer's library and notes that the 1607 edition is a large paper copy.
